The Steeplechase Pier is a fishing pier in Coney Island, New York City. The site originally housed a famous Coney Island theme park called Steeplechase Park, which was built by George C. Tilyou in 1897 and was closed in 1964. The Pier was majorly damaged during hurricane Sandy, but was repaired in 2013 and has been open to visitors ever since.
The Steeplechase Pier appears in the critically-acclaimed psychological drama Requiem For A Dream, based on a book of the same name. In the movie, during a drug-induced hallucination, Harry (Jared Leto), the main character, sees his girlfriend Marion (Jennifer Connely) standing on the pier in a red dress. The scene is also featured in the movie’s theatrical release poster.
