The Bentway offers year-round artistic, cultural, and recreational activities and events, including public art installations, seasonal and special exhibitions, theatre and musical performances, festivals, creative marketplaces, and more. The Bentway’s programming is accessible and participatory, exploring the site’s unique histories, features and possibilities.
The Bentway is a unique and innovative public space that transforms 1.75km underneath Toronto’s Gardiner Expressway into a new gathering place for our city’s growing population.
The initial phase – from Strachan Avenue to Bathurst Street – knits together seven local neighbourhoods with over 70,000 residents, becoming a gateway to the waterfront, while providing access to important attractions and destinations – from Fort York National Historic Site, Ontario Place and Exhibition Place to Harbourfront Centre and the CN Tower.
The Bentway offers gardens, a skate trail, recreational amenities, public art, special exhibitions, festivals, theatre and musical performances, and more. The Bentway is free and open to the public every day.
The Bentway was an underutilized area under the Gardiner Expressway that has been transformed into a multi use park. It's a vibrant public place where visitors can experience a diverse mix of activities and programs. Visitors descend into The Bentway at Strachan Gate via an open-air amphi theatre complete with washrooms, a green room, bleachers and a lawn where they can enjoy performances.
There's also a 220-meters long winter skate trail that becomes a cycle and skate path with a kids’ splash pad in the summer. A great place for your workout any day of year, with an amazing cultural and activities program to boot. You know the drill: hit the ♥︎ so it gets a well deserved place on your training places map.
