Mapped by Inside Cities Magazine - this place beneath Miami's Metrorail is an excellent example of how cities can be much more creative with unused open spaces. Over 10 miles of unused space is being transformed by the city of Miami into a linear park, urban trail, and public art destination. You can exercise with friends or solo in an urban gym, enjoy the various community gathering spaces, or relax in the natural canyon of stone with four butterfly gardens and meditative spaces. Although the Park will be opened in phases until 2025, with the first phase now open it already deserves the Place of the Week in our book.
A complete Urban Gym right under a public railway. In one word "amazing". Here you can exercise with friends or solo in an outdoor gym complete with a flex court for half-court basketball, mini pitch soccer, fitness equipment, running track, and more. Take a fitness break any day of the week or join one of the many classes if you need a little nudge.
We already granted this urban gym the Best Training Spot Award. Now that the year comes to an end, we can only conclude it ranks is among the very best places we have seen. And it is only fair to award them the Best Place of 2021 Award in the category Play in 2021.
The Underline is a 10-mile-long multimodal corridor that stretches from the Miami River in Brickell to the Dadeland South Metrorail station. The corridor reimagines the space underneath Miami’s elevated Metrorail tracks. Once completed, The Underline will create more than 120 acres of open space with restored natural habitats; improved pedestrian and bicycle pathways that connect directly with public transportation; and public open spaces with various active, passive, and cultural programs and public art installations.
